County-Level Distribution of 7 Human Pathogens in I. Scapularis & I. Pacificus Ticks

Journal of Medical Entomology published, “Reported County-Level Distribution of SevenHuman Pathogens Human Pathogens Detected in Host-Seeking Ixodes scapularis and Ixodes pacificus (Acari: Ixodidae) in the Contiguous United States” by Amy C. Fleshman, et al.

The study was conducted using publicly accessible tick-borne pathogen surveillance records, the CDC’s internal databases for pathogen testing, and SCOPUS search archives that have been published since 2000. Researchers charted county distribution levels of Borrelia miyamotoi (Spirochaetales: Spirochaetaceae), Anaplasma phagocytophilum (Rickettsiales: Anaplasmataceae), Ehrlichia muris eauclairensis (Rickettsiales: Ehrlichiaceae), Babesia microti (Piroplasmida: Babesiidae), and Powassan virus (Flaviviridae) documented in host-seeking I. scapularis or I. pacificus throughout the United States.
