New CDC Study A CDC funded study will look for other TBDs in humans will begin this summer (2014) and take place over several years. The study to be done in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Health & the Tennessee Department of Health and other partners. A total of 30,000 specimens will be collected from people in those states whose doctors think they have a TBD. Those samples will be screened using molecular methods to determine the presence of bacterial agents, e.g., borrelia, ehrlichia, rickettsia, bartonella, mycoplasma, and other bacterial agents. Specimens will be banked for possible further studies looking for other organisms.
