Science Writer to Reveal New Facts on Lyme Disease Crisis and her Family’s 10 Year Struggle for Treatment

Panel to feature frank, personal discussion with author, foremost Lyme doctor, physicians’ attorney and patient advocate

Paramus, NJ – On Thursday, May 29, the national Lyme Disease Association will host a panel at Bergen Community College on Lyme disease, featuring the panelists’ devastating personal battles with the disease and its politics.

This event marks the pre-release of writer/author Pamela Weintraub’s book, Cure Unknown: Inside the Lyme Epidemic, and Weintraub will reveal new information from her groundbreaking investigation into the medical history, patient experience and brutal political war over Lyme disease.

The panel will also feature Dr. Joseph Burrascano, Jr, whose treatment philosophies have inspired physicians worldwide to search for new methods for treating chronic Lyme patients, and attorney Elliot Pollack, who defends physicians when they are charged by state medical boards after treating the disease as a chronic condition.

Lyme disease is the fastest growing infectious disease in the United States, with a CDC estimated 200,000+ new cases annually. The tri-state area has the highest case numbers nationally.

The recent announcement by Connecticut Atty. Gen. Richard Blumenthal of a settlement with the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) has put a spotlight on the problems of chronic Lyme disease patients and their inability to get proper treatment.
