LymeAid 4 Kids Program Benefit from Four Seasons Women’s Club in NJ
During May Lyme Awareness Month, the Four Seasons South Knolls (FSSK) Women’s Club along with residents and guests at FSSK, joined together to make a change in the lives of children living with Lyme and tick-borne diseases.
On May 11, 2024, in Jackson, NJ, the Women’s Club held a Walk & Tricky Tray Auction to benefit the Lyme Disease Association, Inc. (LDA) LymeAid 4 Kids (LA4K) fund. LDA is a registered national non-profit which began its mission in Jackson in 1991.
Over 120 participants took part in the well received-event. The Women’s Club donated 100% of the proceeds raised to LA4K. The FSSK Men’s Club, a longtime supporter of LA4K, also contributed.
In total, $4,775 was presented to the LDA.
Scatuccio informed the audience, “Ticks may be active all year long. Approximately 9% of people affected with Lyme disease may have the classic bull’s eye rash. One tick bite may transmit several different illnesses to people and pets. Children and adult seniors are the two groups most vulnerable to acquiring Lyme disease.” She warned, “Proper removal of ticks is crucial to limiting disease transmission. The longer a tick is on you, the greater the chance of transmission. If you suspect you have been exposed to a tick-borne disease, seek immediate assistance from a qualified medical practitioner.”
LA4K is the LDA’s patient support initiative, which was developed in 2003 with the help of author Amy Tan. The fund is for children age 21 and younger who do not have insurance coverage or who receive reimbursement for Lyme disease treatment/diagnosis and whose families have economic difficulties.
