NWNJ Lyme & Tick-Borne Diseases Conference, Oct 5
On Saturday, October 5th, Sussex County Community College and The Tick Squad will host the NWNJ Lyme & Tick-Borne Diseases Conference from 9 AM – 3 PM at the SCCC Performance Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public and will bring together medical professionals and academics who are experts in the field of Lyme disease, other tick-borne diseases (TBDs), and integrated tick management.
The morning session will focus on the topic of awareness, and will kick off with a talk from Dr. Daniel Cameron, MD and former President of the International Lyme & Associated Diseases Society (ILADS), followed by Dr. Kirstin C. Reihman, MD and author of “Life After Lyme.”
Pat Smith, President of Lyme Disease Association, Inc. (LDA), and Keynote Speaker for the event will cover Lyme disease statistics, including what is known specifically in the state of NJ. She will address different types of ticks, the diverse diseases they carry, and how they transmit these various diseases. Pat will also provide an update on current federal issues and legislative actions.
With a focus on action, the afternoon session will feature talks from Dr. Alvaro Toledo, Assistant Professor of Entomology at the Center for Vector Biology, Rutgers University and Erin Collins, SCCC Supervisor of Agriculture & Horticulture Programs, as well as other representatives from Lyme disease and tick testing labs and community agencies.
Registration for the event is not required and a light lunch will be provided. The SCCC Performance Arts Center is located at 1 College Hill Road in Newton, NJ.
