The LDA has had a busy six weeks beginning with Board Member Tim Lynagh staffing a booth at the Ocean City Maryland Sportsman Show for three days in September, followed by the LDA-sponsored Chapter/Affiliate Meeting in Philadelphia which preceded the sold-out LDA/Columbia Lyme Conference in Philadelphia, PA.

Two weeks after the conference, LDA President, Pat Smith, headed to Sussex County NJ, as the Keynote Speaker at the Sussex County Community College and The Tick Squad’s first Lyme & Tick-Borne Diseases Conference. Her hour-long talk discussed the state of tick-borne diseases 44 years into the Lyme epidemic, including the 20 TBDs that are currently known to exist in the U.S. Sussex County already has four confirmed cases of Powassan virus in 2019. LDA Vice President, Richard Smith, staffed an educational booth at the event.

Following this, LDA Board Member and Policy Advisor Tim Lynagh attended a luncheon in D.C. in support of the TickAct. Just three days later Pat Smith traveled to the Pennsylvania Doctor’s Alliance where she spoke to their medical conference for over ninety minutes on the state of tick-borne diseases in the US. A week later, Pat spoke at a press conference hosted by Congressman Christopher Smith, which was held in Wall, New Jersey on the new NIH Strategy for Lyme & TBD research, and the need for the Tick Act which is sponsored by Congressman Chris Smith in the House and Senator Susan Collins in the Senate. Two LDA board members joined Pat, as did LDA volunteer and former board member, Deb Scatuccio.
