Pat Smith, 2022: Overview of Ticks and TBD in US & Nebraska Video

ticks and tick-borne diseases in U.S. and Nebraska
     LDA President, Pat Smith

The Lyme Disease Association’s YouTube channel features a recent video of LDA President, Pat Smith, who presented a webinar to public health officials on an up-to-date look at the different ticks and tick-borne diseases across the U.S. and in Nebraska at the request of the Winnebago Public Health Nursing Department. The webinar was also supported by Winnebago Public Health Department, and funded by the National Indian Health Board Infectious Disease Control grant to the Nursing Department.

Nebraska is a state that recently had confirmed populations of Ixodes scapularis ticks which transmit Lyme disease. The presentation was designed for public health officials to better understand the magnitude of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases not only in their region but across the U.S. It includes Lyme statistics, such as rates of dissemination, information on ticks in the U.S. and the diseases they carry, as well as symptoms, access to care, controversy, government actions, and prevention.

As part of the partnership with the Winnebago Public Health Nursing Department, the Lyme Disease Association, Inc. provided free Lyme and tick-borne diseases brochures to the Department for its education efforts.
