LDA Announces HHS Request for Info: Vector-Borne Diseases National Strategy

Federal Register RFI for national strategy for the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases (VBD) in humans.COMPLETED

In the Federal Register, 11.21.22, the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health, Office of Secretary, Department of Health & Human Services, has announced an RFI, Request For Information, for developing a national strategy for the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases (VBD) in humans. Vector-borne diseases include Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.

Public comments must be electronically submitted no later than midnight Eastern Time (ET) on December 21, 2022. Submissions received after the deadline will not be reviewed.

The Government has identified 5 goals and 19 strategic priorities developed using the framework of the previously released National Public Health Framework for the Prevention and Control of Vector-Borne Diseases in Humans. Those goals and priorities are listed in the RFI. It also recognizes the work of the Tick-Borne Disease Working Group (TBDWG), specifically citing the 2 reports already delivered to Congress by the first two Working Groups─ reports which include 55 recommendations. Those recommendations have been cross- referenced with the Goals and Strategies of the National Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Vector-Borne Diseases and presented in this RFI, reflecting alignment between TBDWG recommendations and the Strategy.

OASH encourages patient advocacy groups and professional organizations to submit responses, especially those reflective of organization views as a whole. The RFI will be used for information and planning purposes only. It is not a commitment or authorization to incur cost for which reimbursement would be required or sought. All submissions become U.S. Government property; they will not be returned, and some of their non-proprietary content may be published.

The Lyme Disease Association Inc. suggests all potential submitters read the entire Federal Register notice for all details  Federal Registry Text.   Other information can be found by contacting Dr. Kristen Honey Chief data Scientist and executive Director of Innovation X; HHS.    [email protected]
