Borrelia Burgdorferi Forms Biofilms

Bacteria have been shown to form biofilms, complex groups of microorganisms that may form in hostile environments and be protective to the bacteria, but to date, had not been proven to be formed by Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb). A new study out of University of New Haven led by Dr. Eva Sapi has now demonstrated that Bb is capable of such formation and that such formation may play a role in their survival in adverse environmental conditions. LDA provided grant support for the work.
