The Lyme Disease Association’s YouTube channel features a recent video of LDA President, Pat Smith, who presented a webinar to public health officials on an up-to-date look at the different ticks and tick-borne diseases across the U.S. and in Nebraska at the request of the Winnebago Public Health Nursing Department. The webinar was also supported by Winnebago Public Health Department, and funded by the National Indian Health Board Infectious Disease Control grant to the Nursing Department.

Hammond, et al., published a study in Current Opinion in Immunology investigating the correlation between persistent Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb), infections, and CD4 T cell responses in August 2022. The study found that in mice infected with Bb, the pathogen triggers CD4 T cell activation in secondary lymphoid tissues, from which they spread into other diseased tissues.
Charles E. Hart, et al., published the results of a study in the journal Viruses designed to determine the risk of human exposure to I. scapularis ticks that were coinfected in a lab with Powassan virus (POWV) and B. burgdorferi, bacteria that causes Lyme disease.

The report of a human death in Georgia from Heartland virus (HRTV) as well as confirmed white-tailed deer exposure to the tick-borne pathogen prompted researchers to collect samples of questing ticks in 2018–2019. The samples were taken from 26 sites near the areas where seropositive deer were captured, as well as the residence of the human patient.
