Findings from this sample of patients showed that this group of patients reported more severe symptoms than the general population as well as reporting higher than other clinical sample groups including cancer patients and chronic pain patients, and for symptoms of fatigue, women reported higher than men.

To avoid persistent symptoms in Lyme disease it is crucial to recognize the Lyme disease rash, when present, and diagnose and treat early and adequately. Persistent symptoms can be multi-system and debilitating, and include severe fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, cardiac complications, neurologic symptoms, and cognitive problems.
The upcoming meeting of the HHS Working Group on Sept. 15 may be your last chance to influence language on persistent/chronic Lyme. Elizabeth M. Hammond, et al., published a study in Current Opinion in Immunology investigating the correlation between persistent Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb), infections, and CD4 T cell responses in August 2022. The study found that in mice infected with Bb, the pathogen triggers CD4 T cell activation in secondary lymphoid tissues, from which they spread into other diseased tissues.
